AI Archeo-HUB
International hub dedicated to the application of artificial intelligence to digital archaeology and to the enhancement of Sardinia’s Nuragic heritage, based at the Manifattura Tabacchi in Cagliari.
Overview
The Hub originates from a partnership between the Association “La Sardegna verso l’Unesco”, the University of Cagliari, the University of Sassari and Duke University. The initiative combines innovative research, advanced interdisciplinary training and public engagement, with potential impacts on cultural tourism and the local economy.
Objectives
New models and methods for digital archaeology and for communicating Nuragic heritage.
Role of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence becomes a bridge between Nuragic heritage and future technologies. It analyzes and organizes large archaeological datasets, accelerates artifact classification, enables virtual reconstructions of Nuragic landscapes and community behaviors in monument construction. Through remote sensing and machine learning, it identifies potential new sites and helps transform research into accessible historical narratives.
Activities
- Training
- International summer schools on the use of AI in Nuragic archaeology.
- Analysis
- Digital inventories, archaeological data and remote sensing.
- Reconstruction
- Landscapes, architecture and behaviors of Nuragic communities.
- Storytelling
- New narratives and heritage experiences for the public.
